From 9–13 June 2026, representatives of Faire Mobilität (Germany), CITUB (Bulgaria) and ÖGB (Austria) met in Munich for a transnational traineeship under the EU-funded project Fair Labour Mobility EU. The programme strengthened cross-border cooperation through the exchange of expertise on labour mobility, social security coordination and workers‘ rights within the European Union. Participants shared counselling experiences, discussed complex cross-border cases and explored practical approaches to supporting mobile workers. The traineeship also promoted mutual learning on national labour law frameworks and trade union counselling practices. A key outcome was the joint preparation and implementation of a transnational border campaign in the Austrian-German border region of Suben/St. Marienkirchen. Together with DGB, ÖGB and vida, the partners carried out direct outreach to international truck drivers, providing information on labour rights, posting rules, social security and trade union support. The campaign reached drivers from numerous countries, reflecting the highly international nature of the European road transport sector. Conversations with drivers highlighted concerns about unequal working conditions, limited access to information and uncertainty about cross-border employment rights. Many participants expressed interest in learning more about trade unions and where to seek advice when facing workplace problems abroad. The campaign demonstrated that direct engagement at border crossings is an effective way to reach mobile workers who are often difficult to access through traditional communication channels. The findings reinforced the need for stronger transnational trade union cooperation and coordinated information campaigns to improve protection for transport workers across Europe. The traineeship concluded with a shared commitment to continue cross-border collaboration and further develop joint activities supporting fair labour mobility in the transport sector.
