Under the title ‘Building bridges: Understanding EU rules in international road transport’, representatives from trade unions, the ELA and Slovenian institutions – including the Labour Inspectorate, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Transport and Customs – met on Tuesday 2 June at the ZSSS trade union headquarters in Ljubljana to discuss the transposition of the Mobility Package into Slovenian law. Representatives from the ETF and Faire Mobilität added perspectives from Denmark and Germany to the discussion on the impact of the Mobility Package on the situation of lorry drivers in Slovenia. The focus of the input from Faire Mobilität’s sector coordinator for international road transport was on how lorry drivers, in light of widespread labour exploitation and legal violations, can be advised in such a way that they have a chance to assert their rights: the key to this is good documentation. A prerequisite for successful out-of-court advice is a European network of advice centres, such as FELM, where complex transnational cases can be handled collaboratively.
